After Rishabh Pant's terrifying performance with the bat continued in IPL 2025, Sanjiv Goenka looked disheartened. On Monday, May 19, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced off at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. The fervent owner of LSG stood on the balcony, observing the activity. But Goenka turned around and rushed back into the air-conditioned box after Pant was removed for a six-ball seven.
After openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh gave LSG a fantastic foundation with a partnership of 115 runs, Pant came out to bat in the eleventh over. The LSG captain's innately combative style was in full force. Eshan Malinga, a Sri Lankan bowler with excellent athleticism and quick reflexes, chipped a return ball to him and was dismissed tamely after diving to his left on his follow-through.

In the crucial do-or-die match in Lucknow, the wicketkeeper batsman was out for just seven. He appeared a little hurried, remained in the middle for only six balls, and then smashed it straight to Eshan Malinga, who made a difficult catch to send the left-handed batsman back into the pavilion. Pant, who paid an incredible INR 27 crore to sign, had yet another failure with the bat.
As the wicketkeeper batter has been under criticism, Pant has amassed 128 runs in 12 games with a lacklustre strike rate of 99.22. Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of LSG, was also displeased with Pant's flimsy dismissal on Monday and walked off the stadium's balcony in annoyance. His social media response went viral, and Pant was mocked for this season's lacklustre performance.
Pat Cummins, the captain of the SRH, won the toss earlier in the day and chose to field first. Marsh (65 off 39) and Markram (61 off 38) gave the home team a scorching start, which would have troubled him, but SRH brilliantly recovered in the latter part of the innings. After reaching his half-century, Markram was unable to accelerate, and Nicholas Pooran (43) had little help from the opposition. Akash Deep helped LSG surpass 200 runs with a six off the final ball. At one point, though, it appeared that they would accumulate more than 220. Malinga finished with stats of 2/28 in his four overs, making him the best bowler for SRH.
