Omkar Salvi was named as the new bowling coach by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Monday night. Prior to the forthcoming IPL 2025 season, the current Mumbai head coach will join the team. The 46-year-old was formerly employed with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as an assistant coach. It should be noted that Salvi will leave his position as Mumbai coach in March 2025.

He is now the head coach of Mumbai, where he helped the team captained by Ajinkya Rahane win the Ranji Trophy and then the Irani Cup. His vast expertise and thorough knowledge of domestic cricket will be of great use to Bengaluru. Earlier in the year, RCB named Dinesh Karthik as their new batting coach and kept Andy Flower and Mo Bobat. Salvi and Karthik are avid local cricket fans and will be instrumental in assembling the squad for the next mega-auction, which is scheduled for November 24 and 25 in Jeddah.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru's New Coach:

The announcement was posted on social media by RCB. The franchise posted on X (previously Twitter), "Announcement: Omkar Salvi, current Head Coach of Mumbai, has been appointed as RCB’s Bowling Coach. Omkar, who has won the Ranji Trophy, Irani Trophy and the IPL in the last 8 months, is excited to join us in time for #IPL2025, after completion of his Indian domestic season duties."

On joining RCB, Omkar said, "It’s an honour to join RCB. My goal is to help our bowlers refine their skills and deliver match-winning performances, with the Chinnaswamy Stadium becoming a fortress for us. I’m also excited to reunite with Dinesh Karthik, whose expertise inspires excellence. Together, we’ll work to build a united team that elevates RCB and makes our loyal fans proud."

For Omkar Salvi, the last two or three years have been like gold dust. Under his leadership, Mumbai won the Irani Cup and the Ranji Trophy in the 2023–24 season. Omkar Salvi has only participated in one List A game during his playing career. Salvi grabbed one wicket and gave up 36 runs against Madhya Pradesh in his first and final Railways match.
