Prior to the IPL 2025 mega-auction, Punjab Kings only kept Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank. With INR 110.50 crore to spend at the auction, they purchased, among other things, Glenn Maxwell and Nehal Wadhera for INR 4.20 crore, Marcus Stoinis for INR 11 crore, Marco Jansen for INR 7 crore, Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal for INR 18 crore each, and Shreyas Iyer for INR 26.75 crore.
The massive auction ultimately ended on Monday after two days of fierce bidding warfare. With the biggest purse going into the competition, PBKS made several high-profile acquisitions to bolster their roster with a number of elite players. Preity, a co-owner of the team, has stated how thrilled she is about the new additions.
Preity Zinta opens up:
She said, "We wanted to start completely new, some hits and misses, but most of them were hits with what we wanted. No auction ever happens where you think these are the names that we want 100 per cent. If you can get above 90 per cent, that's a great auction. And we got about 90% of what we wanted. Yes, they are back, and I am very, very excited. Arshdeep Singh is the original Punjabi boy, Harpreet Brar, Nehal Wadhera and there are so many. One thing we definitely wanted was to have a brand-new team and a brand-new approach. But we also wanted players from our catchment area."
In the IPL 2025, PBKS is about to start what may be a successful campaign. The former finalists brought a huge sum of Rs 110.5 crore to the auction event, which they used wisely to assemble a well-rounded squad. Before the auction, they cut most of their players, keeping only Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh. Earlier this year, Australia's Ricky Ponting was named the new head coach of PBKS.
