The fact that David Warner, the league's top overseas run scorer, went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction was one of the biggest surprises. The renowned Ashwin had a lot of expertise and influence in the competition throughout the years, but he was unable to pique any franchises' attention. Warner, who has played a significant role in the Indian Premier League since 2009, is the league's best overseas run scorer with 6,565 runs at a strike rate of 140. The 38-year-old did not draw any offers in the first rounds of the auction, despite this outstanding record.

The southpaw, who was formerly renowned for his rapid batting, amassed 168 runs at a striker rate of 134.40 and an average of 21.00. His performance in the previous season seemed mediocre considering the T20's current dynamics. The franchises may not have bid for Warner because of his performance in the last tournament.

IPL 2025 Auction Shocking Update:

After Australia's elimination from the T20 World Cup, the seasoned opener also declared his retirement from international competition. Warner may still find a team in the expedited round on day two of the auction, even though he is still unsold after the first rounds. Devdutt Padikkal of India was the first player to go unsold during the night, aside from Warner.

David Warner suffered his poorest IPL season during the tournament's most recent iteration. When considering the player's effectiveness and consistency, the southpaw falls well short of his reputation. His inability to deliver the beginnings for which he was renowned contributed significantly to his unsold status.

After being discharged prior to the 2025 season, the former Delhi Capitals opener has enjoyed an incredible 15-year IPL career. He led Sunrisers Hyderabad to their first IPL championship in 2016 and earned three Orange Caps for the league. With SRH, Warner scored 848 runs at a strike rate of 151.42 in his championship-winning season.
