Superstar batsman Rishabh Pant has spoken out about his breakup with the Delhi Capitals, saying that money was not the reason. Sunil Gavaskar tried to explain why Delhi did not keep their captain before the IPL 2025 super auction in a post made by one of the Indian Premier League's broadcasters, to which Pant replied.
In the meantime, legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar said that the 27-year-old might return to Delhi in the auction when he was analyzing Pant's future. Pant chose not to sign a new deal because, according to his assessment, there may have been disagreements over the retention price. Nonetheless, Gavaskar was certain that the team would ultimately prevail in the auction for Pant.
Rishabh Pant breaks his silence:
My retention wasn’t about the money for sure that I can say 🤍

In his response to the X post, Rishabh Pant made it clear that money wasn't the reason he left Delhi. The cricket player reportedly wasn't pleased with the management, despite the fact that he didn't offer anything more. They just split up, and it was agreed that they would switch off the duties every two years.
Replying to a social media post, the cricketer said, "My retention wasn’t about the money for sure that I can say." Four players were kept by the Delhi Capitals prior to the sale. Kuldeep Yadav was retained for Rs 13.5 crore, South African sensation Tristan Stubbs received Rs 10 crore, while Axar Patel received Rs 16.5 crore. For Rs 4 crore, the uncapped wicketkeeper was kept.
Talking to Star Sports, Gavaskar said, "What I feel is Delhi Capitals would want Rishabh Pant back in their squad. Sometimes, when a player has to be retained, there are talks between the franchise and players over the fees, as expected. As some of the players who have been retained by their franchises, they have gone for more than what the No. 1 retention fee deduction would be. So clearly, I think there may be some disagreement there. But, my feeling is Delhi would want Rishabh Pant back."
