Venkatesh Iyer Opens Up on Big Bid from KKR in IPL 2025 Mega Auctions

At the IPL 2025 mega auction, Venkatesh Iyer was acquired by the defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 23.75 crore, making him the most costly Indian all-rounder in IPL history. With the bid, he ranked third among the highest-paid Indian cricket players in the competition, only surpassed by Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant.

Venkatesh Iyer, an all-rounder, made a suggestion that he would captain the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2025 Indian Premier League. Hours after being re-acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders for an incredible Rs 23.75 crore at auction, Venkatesh made his statement. Fans, retired cricket players, and experts were all taken aback by the bid for Venkatesh during the IPL 2025 auction. Iyer has drawn interest from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Venkatesh Iyer After Big Bid From KKR:

Iyer returned to his former tame with a huge paycheck after entering the auction with a starting price of INR 2 crore. The Lucknow Super Giants, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and KKR engaged in a fierce bidding war for the all-round player in the auction room. RCB and KKR fought on, pushing the price over Pat Cummins' INR 20.50 crore till RCB gave up at INR 23.75 crore, while LSG pulled out at INR 7.75 crore. Iyer said he was thrilled by the signing.

In a conversation with Star Sports, he said, "Getting INR 23.75 crore is secondary, but a second chance to play for Kolkata Knight Riders is the most important thing. I am thankful to the team management for putting their trust in me." 

He added, "I had the opportunity to captain the side in Nitish Rana’s absence when he was unfortunately injured, and I was the vice-captain as well. I’ve always believed that captaincy is just a tag, but leadership is about creating an environment where everyone feels they can play for this team and contribute. If given the responsibility, I would be more than happy to take it on. Absolutely (I'm ready for it). Together, we will aim to defend the championship and continue our winning campaign.
