Mohammed Shami's incredible World Cup 2023 campaign was cut short by a lengthy absence as the pacer sustained an ankle injury following the major tournament. Before the seamer made a comeback to participate in a Ranji Trophy Round 5 match between Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, the severity of the injury kept him out of any competitive cricket for a significant 360 days.

Given Mohammed Shami's injury history, former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar thinks his price may "drop" in the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) super auction. After missing nearly a year of action because of a knee ailment, the 34-year-old returned to competitive cricket last week. Even though Shami will play for Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Trophy, Manjrekar still thinks that the IPL teams would be hesitant to pay a lot of money for the fast.

Majrekar Predicts Mohammed Shami's Future:

Even though Shami wasn't playing at his best during Bengal's encounter in Indore, he still took seven wickets in 40 overs. At the Holkar Cricket Stadium, the Amroha native was a major factor in the visiting team's 11-run triumph. Sanjay Manjrekar recently talked about the pacer's chances in the upcoming IPL 2025 super auction and explored the reasons why the star pacer would not fetch a high price this time.

While speaking with Star Sports, Manjrekar said, "There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami's injury history - and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover - there’s always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season. If a franchise invests heavily and then loses him mid-season, their options become limited. This concern might lead to a drop in his price tag."

He further added, "It's been a few years since David Warner's performances have been great. But, he is still a great player. When Devon Conway was released by CSK, I was sure they would buy him back. They are quite influenced by Rachin Ravindra as well. I don't think they will be interested in bringing David Warner into their plans. I don't think David Warner can fit in CSK."
