Indian women’s team’s head coach Amol Muzumdar has shared his views on the team’s decision not to collect the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Muzumdar revealed that it was the stance taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), adding that winning the tournament only matters to them, irrespective of their trophy collection.
According to Cricbuzz, Mohsin Naqvi insisted on presenting the trophy, and India was unwilling to accept it from him. India left victorious, but trophy-less, just like they did during the Men’s Asia Cup in 2025.
“That stand has been taken by BCCI and we stand by it. For us, this tournament is over, we are the champions. That’s good enough. It was on the big board that India are the champions of Asia Cup 2026. This tournament is officially over for us. We’re happy that we’re the champions and we look forward to the Asian Games,” Muzumdar said in the post-match press conference.
On the other hand, Indian women’s team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur heaped praise on her teammates for putting in all-round efforts. Notably, India posted 183/5 in 20 overs and in return Sri Lanka got bundled out for 111 runs.
“I think we played to our standards because that’s what we discussed when we came here. We have certain standards, and we have to keep matching them every day. We are very happy with the way we all performed. And I think the girls have done fabulously well throughout the entire tournament. Setting 184 in a final, that’s a big thing,” Harmanpreet Kaur said after the game.
