We were told that cricket is a gentleman's game. We were taught to respect our opponents. However, occasionally, a cricket player with a distinct style and eccentricities emerges that are impossible to overlook. During the current IPL 2025 season, Digvesh Rathi, a legspinner for the Lucknow Super Giants, has been a fan favourite.

During the 2025 Indian Premier League, Rathi's "notebook" celebration went viral, in which he acts as though he is striking a name off a fictitious list after every dismissal. The IPL's Code of Conduct was repeatedly broken as a result of the gesture, which amused the supporters but was viewed as hostile or unsportsmanlike by the match officials. The 25-year-old has now finally spoken up about the origins of the celebration in a widely shared video.

Digvesh Rathi Breaks Silence:

In a video that the Lucknow Super Giants shared on their official social media accounts, he stated, "Start yeh hai ki, jab bhi koi tournament hota hai, main notebook leke jaata hoon. Aur usme sabke naam likhne hain mujhe (Thing how it started is, I carry a notebook every time there is a tournament to write everyone's names in it)."

Even though his supporters are aware that the Lucknow Super Giants have already eliminated themselves from contention for the IPL 2025 championship, Rathi's return to action after a match ban has thrilled them. On Tuesday night, LSG will play Royal Challengers Bangalore at Lucknow's Ekana Cricket Stadium. In the context of the playoffs, this game is very important because it will determine whether RCB stays at number three and faces the Mumbai Indians in the elimination round or moves up to the top slot and earns a ticket to Qualifier 1.

He had previously been punished for making identical gestures to Mumbai Indians' Naman Dhir and Punjab Kings' Priyansh Arya. The 25-year-old persisted in giving heartfelt farewells despite numerous warnings and penalties. On Tuesday, May 27, when LSG plays Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the season's last league match, the spinner is anticipated to return to the starting lineup.
