On Friday, June 27, India's first training day in Birmingham before the second Test at Edgbaston, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh had a lengthy bowling session. He has not yet made his Test debut, but his close working relationship with bowling coach Morne Morkel suggested that he would be considered for selection for the forthcoming match, which will take place at a site where India has yet to win a Test match.

Arshdeep may be in contention for India Test cap number 318 after a lengthy training session in Birmingham, according to a TOI report. Arshdeep would become the second Indian player to make his Test debut after Sai Sudharsan if he is selected for the playing XI. India's top pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, has previously declared that he will not be playing in every Test match due to workload management. Arshdeep might be given a chance if Bumrah is resting at Edgbaston. Furthermore, the bowler from Punjab has prior experience playing county cricket.

Arshdeep Singh Set to Fill Bumrah's Shoes?

Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna were at the stadium, but they did not take part in training, according to several media sources. Bumrah has previously stated that, depending on how his body responds to the strain, he will play three Test matches throughout the series. In 2022, the fast bowler captained India at Edgbaston, when England achieved an amazing victory by chasing down 378 runs.

Since Birmingham's wicket is known to help spinners, former cricket players Sanjay Bangar and Subramanium Badrinath seek to add Kuldeep Yadav as a second spinner in addition to Arshdeep. At Headingley, Leeds, the Three Lions chased down a huge 371-run total, putting India behind 0-1 in the five-match series. The visiting Shubman Gill-led team suffered a significant defeat as a result of Bumrah going wicketless in the last innings, while Ben Duckett's outstanding 149-run effort on the last day of the tournament was the highlight of the successful chase.
