At Sawai Mansingh Stadium today, Arshdeep Singh established an unwelcome IPL 2025 record after hitting 22 runs in his opening over. Singh gave up the most costly first over of the Indian Premier League season as Rajasthan Royals starter Yashasvi Jaiswal hammered four boundaries and a six.
The first and third deliveries were stroked away for boundaries as the aggressive southpaw swiped hard. Jasiwal continued to play and hit another boundary by scooping the fourth over the wicketkeeper. The sixth and last delivery went for a streaking four to make it a 22-run over, while the next delivery provided the first six of the innings.
It's interesting to note that in 2023, at the storied Eden Gardens, Jaiswal hit Nitish Rana of the Kolkata Knight Riders for 26 runs, which led to the most costly opening over in IPL history. Singh let up the third-most costly opening over in IPL history as a result of his efforts today at Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Before Suryavanshi was removed for an incredible 40 off just 15 balls in the penultimate ball of the fifth over, the left-handed pair put on 76 for the first partnership. In the first six overs, RR scored 89/1, their highest powerplay total in IPL history. Earlier this year, in the IPL 2025, the pair contributed to RR's next-best powerplay score. Against the Gujarat Titans on April 28, 2025, the pair thrashed 87/0 in the first six overs, with Suryvanshi being the youngest IPL century ever.
For his second over inside the powerplay, the left-armer, meanwhile, came back from the opposite end. But this time, the 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi's bat did the talking as he got rid of the cunning bowler for 16 runs. After choosing to bat first earlier in the evening, PBKS amassed 219/5 thanks to top scorer Nehal Wadhera (70 off 37), Shashank Singh's explosive 30-ball 59-run blitz, and Azmatullah Omarzai (unbeaten 21 off nine), who propelled the visitors to a commanding total. Tushar Deshpande took two wickets despite Riyan Parag being the most economical bowler for RR.
