Sunil Gavaskar's suggestion that if Rohit Sharma is unable to play the first Test, Jasprit Bumrah should be named captain for the duration of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy got a fitting reply from Finch. Rohit might not play in the opening match of the five-Test series in Perth on November 22 since his wife Ritika Sajdeh is expecting their second child. Rohit kept his "fingers crossed" on his availability for the first Test following India's 0–3 thumping of New Zealand.
A segment of the cricket community has been harsh on the 37-year-old ever since rumours circulated that he could miss the first Test. After India was humiliated in the three-match Test series against New Zealand at home earlier this month, vexation was already in the air. The Asian powerhouses must defeat India 4-0 or 5-0 in the five-match Test series in order to go to the World Test Championship (WTC) finals without having to depend on any other team.
Finch supports Rohit Sharma:
Finch said, "I disagree with Sunny on that totally. Rohit Sharma is the captain of the Indian cricket team. If you need to stay at home because your wife's going to have a baby… that's such a beautiful moment… and you take all the time that you need in that regard."
Journalist Fayed D'Souza claims that Aaron Finch, the former captain of Australia, has stepped up to support Rohit. She shared information regarding Finch's support for his former Mumbai Indians captain on her Instagram account. Curiously, Ritika tagged the Australian and included a salute-face emoji in her comment beneath the post.

This year, Rohit has participated in 11 Test matches for India. The seasoned player has only amassed 588 runs at a pitiful average of 29.40 from 21 innings. This season, he has recorded two half-centuries and the same number of tons. He only managed to score 91 runs at a pitiful average of 15.17 from six innings against New Zealand. Given their current predicament, India needs their skipper to perform at the highest level during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
