The Women's Caribbean Premier League is approaching, and Caribbean fans are headed to some unforgettable T20 action. Teams are honing their strategies in anticipation of a victorious campaign as the competition gets underway on September 10. The Barbados Royals have suffered a severe blow just before the start of the season. Due to an unlucky injury, captain Hayley Matthews will miss the full season.
With 424 runs at a strike rate of 113.06, Matthews leads the WCPL in runs scored and has been a key member of the Royals. Having taken 23 wickets in 13 games at an economy rate of 5.79, she also tops the WCPL bowling standings. Speaking about Matthews' injury, she sustained it when touring England with the West Indies women's team. Because of her operation, she was unable to participate in the Women's Big Bash League. The pre-draft pick of the Melbourne Renegades Women, Matthews chose not to participate in the WBBL draft. She later participated in the Hundred Women's and South Africa home series.

The new injury setback was another blow to her career when she participated in the Hundred Women's 2025. Her absence will be a major blow to the Barbados Royals, since she is a solid pillar of the team. The Barbados Royals will miss Hayley Matthews, who was essential to their success after consecutive championship seasons. The squad demonstrated faith in Chinelle Henry, who is expected to lead the team in the upcoming season, despite her absence. On September 10, the team will play their first game against the Trinbago Knight Riders; however, Matthews' replacement has not yet been revealed.
A few players from the young West Indies team that are entering the WCPL 2025, including Meanwhule, Trishan Holder, Steffie Soogrim, and Barbados Royals' Naijanni Cumberbatch, attended the Chennai Super Kings Academy in Chennai in August.
