The Champions Trophy has started, and the National Stadium in Karachi has had a fantastic start. Pakistan has not hosted a major cricket tournament since 1996 when they co-hosted the ODI World Cup with India and Sri Lanka, and this was their first time hosting the Champions Trophy.

Just prior to the opening ball of Pakistan vs. New Zealand's 2025 Champions Trophy match on Wednesday (February 19), the Pakistan Air Force Sherdil Squadron performed a spectacular air display at Karachi Stadium. However, a video of the incident swiftly went viral on social media, shocking both the New Zealand players and the onlookers with the boom from the planes.

Pakistan's Air Show in Champions Trophy 2025:

The tournament began with a boom, as the renowned Pakistani air troupe, known as the "Sherdils," performed an air display shortly before the game began. As the group flew with Pakistan's national colours emerging from the aircraft, they welcomed the event's beginning with these lovely scenes. Fans who loved the spectacle began filming the pilots as they flew above the stadium and performed a fantastic display, so this was a gift for them.

For the first time since the World Cup in 1996, Pakistan is hosting an ICC event, making it a historic occasion. In order to provide improved facilities for visiting teams, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) even destroyed and rebuilt the Karachi Stadium.

Even though they enthralled the spectators, the Kiwi players were caught off guard when the troupe passed over the stadium. In the following video, Glenn Philips and Mark Chapman similarly had startled reactions, while Kiwi opener Devon Conway was observed acting evasively as soon as he heard the troupe's sound. The incident that happened right before the game stunned some supporters just as much as the Blackcaps.
