The Maharashtra chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has committed to providing land for the construction of a new stadium in Mumbai that can hold up to one lakh people at a time. The Maharashtra chief minister recalled the suggestion he was asked to make with Amol Kale, the MCA president at the time, and Ajinkya Naik, the present MCA president, and asserted that he had fulfilled it.
In four years, when the MCA would be commemorating its centennial, Fadnavis also anticipated that a stadium of a similar kind could be built. Fadnavis expressed gratitude to the cricket players and their families for helping to establish Wankhede as the nation's cricketing holy grail. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the MCA governing body for making it happen.
When part of the stands at the Wankhede Stadium were renamed after the well-known cricket players, Fadnavis spoke to the crowd. Stands bearing the names of Sharad Pawar, Ajit Wadekar, and Rohit Sharma were dedicated in their honour. Fadnavis promised during his address to supply the land needed to construct the new cricket ground.
CM Devendra Fadnavis Official Statement:
On Friday, May 16, Fadnavis made this statement while renaming the stands at Wankhede Stadium. He said, "Last year, Kale (late MCA president Amol Kale) and Ajinkya Naik (The current MCA President) had come to me with a request that the MCA needed to build one more stadium of a minimum 1,00,000-crowd capacity. And now today, I'm assuring Ajinkya that if you come with a proposal, then the Maharashtra government will give you an appropriate good piece of land for the MCA to build its own big stadium, which can sit 1,00,000 spectators."
In honour of former Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president Amol Kale, the MCA also formally opened the MCA Office Lounge. After defeating former Mumbai and India cricketer Sandip Patil in the October 2022 elections, Kale was elected president of the MCA. During his 2024 T20 World Cup tour of the United States, he suffered a heart attack and died. The decision to match the BCCI match price for all of its red-ball players for the 2024–25 season was one of the significant choices the MCA made during its term.
He further added, "Maharashtra and Mumbai a state of passionate cricket lovers. Everyone knows about Mumbai's contribution to (world) cricket. After four years, the MCA will be completing its 100 years. So by then, we should have our new stadium ready. And whatever the MCA needs to do in order to build that stadium, we will provide that."
