There were a lot of memorable occurrences on Day 3 of the current fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25. But the event that stands out the most was when Nitish Kumar Reddy, then 21 years old, got his first Test century at the MCG in front of his loved ones. The father of India's all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mutyala, was informed on Sunday by legendary Sunil Gavaskar that his sacrifices had brought "a gem in cricket" to the country.
Following his century, Nitish's family was filmed meeting up with former India batsman Sunil Gavaskar. In a touching gesture, Nitish's father, Mutyalu Reddy, bowed down and touched Gavaskar's feet as a sign of respect for the legendary batsman. Subsequently, Gavaskar gave Gavaskar a hug. The video has gone viral on social media. Nitish's mother, who was also moved, told Gavaskar that she still couldn't believe her son was playing at such a large stadium and putting on such a "big innings." The video has sparked mixed reactions on social media. Check them out below.

This video is a prime example of why caste system should be abolished in India.

This people worshipping and giving a god like treatment to sports personality is the very root of india not being a dominant sporting country.

Reddy came in at No. 8 and was eventually dismissed for 114 off 189 balls with 11 fours and a six on Day Four morning. Earlier, former Indian coach Ravi Shastri also said that he had tears in his eyes as he watched Reddy's gritty knock. Mutyala, who fought a sea of emotions on Saturday as his son produced a doughty hundred to keep India in the contest, thanked everyone and touched Gavaskar's feet as a sign of respect.
Notably, former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri was in the commentary box when Nitish Kumar Reddy reached his century. Shastri became overwhelmed and started crying when he saw Reddy's tearful father as his son was writing history. The Indian squad appears to have benefited greatly from Reddy's century. The visitors have shown remarkable ball skills in the second innings and are attempting to keep the Australians to the lowest possible score and chase down the total.
