As England trounced India on Day 3 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester, Joe Root moved up to No. 2 on the list of all-time Test cricket run scorers, surpassing Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis, and Ricky Ponting. At Stumps, England overtook India's first innings total of 358 by 186 runs after reaching 544/7 in 135 overs.
Root broke numerous records when he smashed 150. Joe Root surpassed Steve Smith for the most Test tons against India and Don Bradman for the most Test hundreds at home against a single opponent. After smashing a half-century and retiring due to cramps, England captain Ben Stokes returned to finish the day undefeated.
ENG vs IND 2025 4th Test Day 3 Review:
On the third day, Pope and Root began the proceedings for England. England reached 341 at the end of 76 overs thanks to a spectacular 144-run partnership off 228 balls. But Pope was removed by Washington Sundar for a 128-ball 71 just before India was given access to the second new ball. With six wickets remaining, England was nine runs behind India's first innings total when Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Harry Brook four overs later.
Stokes will start his next innings at number 77. Dawson, meanwhile, has appeared reliable with his undefeated knock of 21 from 52 balls. Sundar was an outstanding bowler for India, taking two wickets for 57 runs in 19 overs. Jadeja put forth a lot of effort and took a few wickets. Bumrah missed a significant portion of the match because of an injury, and Kamboj blew hot and cold. The Indian fans will be extremely relieved that he came back to bowl later in the day. India is facing an uphill battle to regain parity in the five-match series, as England has put itself in a strong position with two days remaining.
