Bangladesh has taken a historic step toward empowering women in cricket, making history in the process. Salma Khatun, a former captain of the national women's team, has been formally appointed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as the nation's first female selector. Since Bangladesh is making last-minute preparations for the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup, which begins on September 30, Khatun won't have time to adjust to her new role.
Khatun will want to closely monitor the players' performances in the main event, even if the squad has already been revealed. Despite being in a difficult group, the Bangladesh men's squad has recently shown some encouraging results, even making it to the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2025. In the upcoming years, Khatun hopes to lead the Bangladesh women's team to even greater glory.
Salma Khatun Creates History:
This important ruling, which emphasizes diversity and representation at the decision-making level, ushers in a new era for Bangladesh cricket. Sazzad Ahmed will be joined on the women's selection panel by Salma Khatun, who is considered to be one of the pioneers of women's cricket in Bangladesh. Given her years of experience as a player and captain, it is anticipated that her involvement will add new viewpoints to the selection process.

The chairman of the BCB's media committee, Iftekhar Rahman, stated, "I think this is a revolutionary decision by our [BCB] president [Aminul Islam], as having someone like Salma involved will provide great support for women's cricket. This is the first time such an appointment has been made in Bangladesh."
Salma, who was born in Khulna, served as the inaugural captain of the Bangladesh women's team. In 18 ODIs and 65 T20Is, she captained Bangladesh. In 2014 and 2015, she topped the T20I cricket bowlers rankings. With an average of 18.57 and her best figures of 4/6 against Sri Lanka, she took 84 wickets with her off-spin bowling in the shortest format.
Salma Khatun's enormous contributions to Bangladeshi cricket are also acknowledged by the appointment. Salma Khatun led the team in 65 Twenty20 Internationals and 18 One-Day Internationals as Bangladesh's first captain in international women's cricket. She played in 46 ODIs and 95 T20Is during her career, making her one of the most significant cricket players in the nation.
Salma received numerous honours, including becoming the world's top T20I bowler in 2014 and 2015 and reaching the top of the ICC rankings. Her best numbers of 4 for 6 against Sri Lanka were among the 84 wickets she took in the format at an outstanding average of 18.57.
