Tanveer Ahmed, a former bowler for Pakistan, criticised Pakistan's cricketing greats for failing to develop fresh talent in the nation. He made analogies to the renowned Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who has been instrumental in Abhishek Sharma's growth as a player.
It was during the COVID-19 pandemic that Yuvraj began to mentor Abhishek. The renowned former Indian cricket player arranged Abhishek's training sessions and assisted him with the game's tactical and technical elements. Since the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, the young player's career has taken off, and he hasn't looked back.
Pakistan Legends Gets Slammed:
Tanveer took to the social media site X (previously Twitter) to voice his dissatisfaction with the apparent lack of guidance from Pakistani greats, especially following Pakistan's tournament defeat to India for the second time. He wrote, “Yuvraj just tweeted and congratulated Abhishek Sharma. The question is, how many of our legends have actually produced, nurtured, and developed any future star?”
With 173 runs in four innings at an average of 43.25 and a strike rate of 208.43, Abhishek is the top scorer in the current Asia Cup. Abhishek hit 74 off 39 balls in India's most recent Super Fours match against Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday, September 21, enabling the Men in Blue to win by a commanding six wickets. Within 19 overs, they managed to chase down a target of 172 runs. Ahmed emphasised how past Pakistani cricket players don't devote their time to helping the nation's top players improve their talents following the success of the Yuvraj-Abhishek team.
India's victory over Pakistan on Sunday kept them undefeated in the 2025 Asia Cup. They had won four straight games. The team captained by Suryakumar Yadav will play again on Wednesday, September 24. In Dubai, they will play Bangladesh. After defeating Sri Lanka by four wickets in their opening Super Fours match, the Bangla Tigers would be feeling quite good. They will virtually guarantee their place in the final with a victory on Wednesday.
