India leads the three-match series 1-0 after defeating England in the opening ODI on Thursday, February 6, in Nagpur. Despite getting stuck for enough time during the first powerplay, Harshit Rana, one of the debutants, and Yashasvi Jaiswal contributed with a good spell. Rana defeated Ben Duckett, Harry Brook, and Liam Livingstone, the three English hitters, which was crucial in keeping the visitors to 248 in the first innings.
In his first ODI match for India against England in the series opener in Nagpur on Thursday, Harshit was costly but effective. He became the first Indian bowler to capture three or more wickets in all three formats in his first innings, and he exposed England's batting lineup at pivotal times. In the T20I format, Harshit is renowned for his proficiency at death bowling. However, he was only useful in the middle overs and new ball in the 50-over format.
Harshit Rana opines on IND vs ENG ODI:
In the last stages of the first innings, India captain Rohit Sharma chose to employ Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja despite having three overs left in his account. There may come a day in the future when Harshit is requested to deliver the death, and the young person is prepared to accept it. Rana, who made his debut in the 50-over format and helped the team win, stated that he is prepared to bowl for the Indian side at any point throughout the game, from the opening powerplay to the last overs.
In the post-match conference, Harshit said, "I have bowled well in death before. I am ready for it. This format is difficult. You get 10 overs, and you have to play different roles in different phases."
The Delhi pacer helped the Kolkata Knight Riders win their third title in the IPL 2024 season, demonstrating his ability to bowl in the difficult overs. Rana finished the tournament as the team's third-highest wicket-taker, behind Varun Chakravarthy and Andre Russell, with 19 wickets in 13 games.
