On Wednesday, January 22, India (IND) will play England (ENG) in the opening Twenty20 International of the five-match series at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. After the Men in Blue defeated England in the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals, this will be the first time the two sides play one another. Since winning the trophy in Barbados, the reigning world T20 champions have not lost a bilateral series. In the shortest version of the game, India is ranked first, while the team captained by Jos Buttler is ranked third.
The return of bowler Mohammed Shami to international cricket after a 14-month hiatus is the team's high point for the five-match series. Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy have rejoined the Indian Test team, while key players Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant have been rested. The new addition to the team is Dhruv Jurel, who took Jitesh Sharma's place as Samson's backup goalie.
