Sanju Samson recently talked about his affection for MS Dhoni and how their relationship has developed over time. When the 18th Indian Premier League (IPL) begins on Saturday, March 22, the two renowned cricket players will be playing. As he gets ready for his IPL 2025 season with CSK, Dhoni hopes to add his sixth IPL championship to his already impressive resume. At their home field in Chepauk, CSK, under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, will kick off their campaign against their bitter rivals, the Mumbai Indians (MI).

When their teams faced off in the IPL, Samson stated that he wanted to be around Dhoni as much as possible. After scoring the game-winning half-century against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the Kerala wicketkeeper-batter recalled that their relationship deepened.

Sanju Samson gets candid:

In a JioHotstar interview, Samson stated, "Like every young Indian cricketer, I always wanted to be around MS Dhoni. Every time we played against CSK, I wanted to sit and talk to him, and ask him how he does things. It was a dream for me. I remember playing a match against CSK in Sharjah, where I finally performed well, scored around 70-80 runs, won the game, and became the Man of the Match. After that, I met Mahi bhai, and since then, our relationship has grown. Even now, I meet him often. Just yesterday, I met him again. It’s truly a blessed feeling, to go from idolizing him to now sitting with him for shoots and events. I feel like I’m living my dream."

In accordance with a new regulation implemented during the previous IPL auction, MS Dhoni, who will play for CSK in the 2025 season, was kept as an uncapped player by the team for Rs 4 crore. Teams are permitted to keep uncapped players who haven't participated in international cricket for five years under the regulation. Since retiring in 2020, Dhoni has just participated in the IPL and has not played cricket for his country.
