The 29-year-old, who has participated in the most recent Ashes series and played four Test matches for his nation, will be joining teammates Andrew 'AJ' Tye and Sam Whiteman of Western Australia at Headingley. Tye has committed to a two-year contract with the T20 Blast, while Whiteman will play in every format for White Rose County. Both Whiteman and Tye have been signed as domestic players and are citizens of the United Kingdom.
For those who are unaware, Richardson made his Test debut against England in the just-finished Ashes series. After Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, two mainstay quicks, were removed, he received his first cap. After missing a year due to a recurrent shoulder ailment, the 29-year-old returned to the team following Australia's 3-1 victory over India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25. Richardson is thrilled to join Yorkshire.

In addition, Yorkshire has brought in all-rounder Logan van Beek from the Netherlands and pacer Naveen Ul-Haq from Afghanistan. Gavin Hamilton, general manager of cricket, told the club website that their most recent addition is a "huge boost" to their goals to improve upon their debut season back in Division One last year.
Hamilton said, "Jhye is a very impressive bowler who has performed exceptionally well, and he will really complement the team for that important first part of the season. His skillsets are ones suited to English conditions, and he can make things happen with that ability to push his speed into the high 80s. Getting Jhye is a huge boost for us, and his quality underlines our ambition to build a squad capable of seriously competing in the County Championship."
Richardson was quoted as saying, "I'm really pleased to be joining Yorkshire. The history of the club and of Headingley goes without saying, so to be coming here and playing red ball cricket for the first time is an immense privilege. Speaking with the coaches gave me a great sense of what the group are looking to achieve this year, and I'm ready to get over and get started."
