Karsan Ghavri, a former member of the Indian national cricket team, offered his thoughts on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's prospects in Test cricket. He stated that both of the top players should declare their retirement from the game's longest format if they did not do well in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25.
The Indian team was unprepared for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's batting struggles. Their recent appearances in the New Zealand and Bangladesh series have given the critics enough material to express their disapproving views. It's important to note that neither Rohit nor Kohli have scored more than fifty runs in the previous ten innings.
Virat and Rohit each scored 93 and 91 runs in six innings against New Zealand. Following the poor performances, former Indian pacer Karsan Ghavri said that if the top Indian hitters are unable to score many runs, they might think about retiring from the longest format.
Karsan Ghavri's Harsh Advice:
One of the main reasons India lost the Test series at home after a 12-year break was the terrible batting performances of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli during the whole Test series against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. Throughout the three games, the top hitters struggled against pace and spin, making them appear like walking wickets.
According to Karsan Ghavri, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will need to produce a lot of runs in the Test series against Australia. He stated that as India needs to assemble a team for the future, there is no use in keeping the guys on the team who are not performing. He clarified in an interview with the Times of India.

He said, "200 per cent yes. They need to score big. If they don’t perform, it’s time for them to call a time on their Test careers. If they don’t perform in Australia, Virat and Rohit should retire. They have done a lot for Indian cricket, but the team needs runs to win. We need to build a team for the future. How long will we keep players who aren’t performing?"
He added, “If they perform, keep them; if not, why select them? If players are selected without performance, then bring in Cheteshwar Pujara or Ajinkya Rahane. If Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli aren’t scoring runs, then who will score? In a country like Australia, you need experienced players who can occupy the crease, stay longer, and put up big scores. To beat Australia in Australia, you need big totals on the board,”
