Steve Smith, the star batsman for Australia, has only amassed 19 runs in the last two Test matches against India. He returned to number four in the batting order, but the cricketer hasn't settled in yet, which is concerning, particularly because Australia's place in the World Test Championship final is still up in the air. All-rounder Mitchell Marsh expressed confidence in Smith throughout this time and believed he would regain his form in the third Test match at Gabba.
In an attempt to find a long-term replacement for the retired David Warner at the top of the batting order, Australia has experimented with his batting position by moving him to open the innings. The batting star was returned to his preferred position because the opening move with Smith didn't work out. Mitchell Marsh has urged the former skipper to return to his best form soon, even though runs are still eluding his bat.
Mitchell Marsh motivates Steve Smith:
Cricbuzz quoted Mitchell Marsh, saying, "We know he's one of our best players ever and I'm certainly backing him to get some runs. I'm probably not in a position to tell Steve Smith what he should work on. We know he's a class player and he's scored a lot of runs for Australia and we know at times when we've needed him, he always seems to step up."
He further added, "We had a really clear plan before the series started. I didn’t bowl as much as I would have liked to in the lead-up to the series, but our medical staff and Ronnie (coach Andrew McDonald) and Patty (captain Pat Cummins) were really clear on my lead-up. I trusted that. I haven’t had to bowl too much so far, but my body is feeling really good."
