South Africa's new convenor selector for the men's senior team is Patrick Moroney, a former national selector. The Proteas' white-ball tour of Australia, which begins on August 10, will be Moroney's first series in charge after he takes office on August 1. Since 2001, Moroney has been a part of the selection process. In 2019, he was in line to become South Africa's convenor of selectors, having previously worked with the South African National Academy and rising sides. However, Victor Mpitsang defeated him, and he was given a job with him.
He most recently served as the captain of the Under-19 selection team, which selected promising young players for the U-19 World Cup last year, including Kwena Maphaka and Lhuan-dre Pretorius. The director of High Performance and national teams, Enoch Nkwe, provided an enthusiastic endorsement.
Patrick Moroney Takes Over:
National teams and High Performance director Enoch Nkwe said in a statement, "His deep understanding of the game, combined with decades of experience in talent identification and selection across various levels, makes him the ideal person for the job."

Since being hired as the head coach in January 2023, Shukri Conrad, the coach of the Proteas Test, will be collaborating with a convenor selector for the first time. The selection panel as a whole was discarded when he took office. Conrad and white-ball coach Rob Walter were in charge of choosing the team for over a year. Only the captain and them, no convenor or panel. It resulted in some audacious, even startling, choices. When Conrad sent Wiaan Mulder to bat at No. 3 in Test matches, it appeared like a crazy idea until Mulder hit a record-breaking 367*.
The panel's decision to alter the winning XI for the 2022 England visit was the most contentious one. In the second Test at Old Trafford, South Africa had to bat first on a challenging track after winning the first Test at Lord's and selecting a spinner on a seamer-friendly ground. They consequently lost both the match and the series. Marco Jansen, who was unknown at the time but has since represented South Africa in all formats, was also chosen by the jury.
