Before the Indian Premier League 2026, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unexpectedly requested that the Kolkata Knight Riders remove Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman from their lineup. The team complied. Rahman was acquired by KKR for an enormous sum of INR 9.2 crore during the auction, and the board has declared that they will permit KKR to recruit a successor.

Rahman will be difficult to replace because he is a left-arm overseas pacer and a highly talented T20 bowler. KKR now has several wise options to think about, ranging from proven international quicks to middle-order enforcers to pace-bowling all-rounders, with a crucial overseas slot abruptly empty and squad balance at risk.

Who will replace Mustafizur Rahman in KKR?

3. Spencer Johnson:

Spencer Johnson, an Australian pacer, might take Mustafizur Rahman's place in the KKR. He provides the same left-arm pace as Pathirana and is accustomed to the KKR setup. He is currently recovering from a back injury, but if he gets well soon, he might bolster KKR's bowling depth.

2.  Gerald Coetzee:

Gerald Coetzee, a pace bowler from South Africa, was unable to attract any buyers at the auction table before the 2026 season. He is involved in franchise leagues worldwide and has previously represented the Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians. With his ability to swing the blade hard and long enough, he might be the ideal addition to the team and useful as a death overs hitter.

1. Sean Abbott:

Despite being a frequent participant in the Big Bash League, Sean Abbott has avoided the spotlight on a global scale. However, his 20-over cricket records are outstanding. The right-arm bowler has taken over 261 wickets in 199 games with an economy rate of 8.65, which is respectable in the game's shortest format.  If KKR hires Abbott before IPL 2026, it might be a blessing in disguise.
