There may be a significant casting announcement for Baiju Bawra, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's eagerly anticipated passion project. The Deccan Chronicle reports that Ranbir Kapoor has been confirmed as the musical romance's main character, taking Ranveer Singh's place as the male protagonist. DC learned from people close to the development that pre-production has already started. According to reports, Ranbir is overjoyed to play the lead role.
Pre-production has begun on the film, which had previously been placed on hold while Bhansali worked on Love & War. In keeping with his long-standing professional relationship with the celebrated director, Kapoor, who made his Bollywood debut in Bhansali's 2007 film Saawariya, is apparently excited to play a part steeped in Indian cinematic history. A source revealed, “Ranbir starts his mornings listening to classics from the 1950s, including tracks from the original Baiju Bawra (1952). He’s even been introducing his daughter Raha to this timeless music."

One of SLB's most beloved productions has been Baiju Bawra. According to reports, the filmmaker has been developing the concept for more than 20 years. Bharat Bhushan and Meena Kumari appeared in the original 1952 classic, which was directed by Vijay Bhatt and is known for its famous music by Naushad. SLB, who is well-known for his operatic storytelling and love of classical music, has long stated that he wants to adapt the tale for contemporary audiences.
Ranbir Kapoor is preparing for a thrilling filmography. Alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, he will appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War. He will also play Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, in which Yash plays Raavan and Sai Pallavi plays Sita. In November 2026, Ramayana is scheduled to be released in theatres. Fans are excitedly awaiting Ranbir's upcoming motion picture endeavours because he is also scheduled to feature in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's follow-up to the 2023 hit Animal. One of Bollywood's most eagerly awaited films is still Baiju Bawra.
