Watching movie stars perform difficult, life-threatening stunts while lounging in your air-conditioned seat is a particular kind of pleasure. Action films continue to rank among Hollywood's greatest on-screen productions, and 2026's action lineup is no different.
While some new blockbuster video games and Saturday morning cartoon adaptations will attempt to usurp the box office crown from the superhero studios, each will return to try to restore it. Along with Christopher Nolan's return to action with a sword-and-sandals epic, there are also a few new original productions that include some of the current favourite action stars. These eight films are undoubtedly the most anticipated of 2026's action-packed slate.
Must-Watch Action Films of 2026:
5. The Bluff:
Release Date: February 25
The film, which takes place in the 19th century, revolves around Priyanka Chopra Jonas, a former female pirate who must defend her family after her enigmatic past catches up with her.

4. Supergirl:
Release Date: June 26
Although Craig Gillespie seems an odd choice for a superhero blockbuster, the genre has benefited from such audacious moves in the past. If nothing else, the film will have the most obvious casting decision ever, as Jason Momoa plays Lobo in his year-ending action role.

3. The Odyssey:
Release Date: July 27
Christopher Nolan, who won an Academy Award for Oppenheimer, will try to revive sword-and-sandal epics with a lavish, high-profile remake of The Odyssey. The picture is Nolan's first foray into fantasy and should serve as a suitable pretext for staging some epic combat scenes. Matt Damon plays Odysseus, the Trojan War hero whose return home to his family is hindered by a variety of gods and monsters.

With the most recent Spider-Man film hitting theatres just two weeks after The Odyssey, it looks like power couple Tom Holland and Zendaya will be dominating the box office this summer. Although it is a new beginning for Peter Parker, it comes after 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home.
