The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season is currently underway, and several experienced players are struggling. After this season, the majority of these players are probably going to retire from the IPL based on their age, performance, and prospects for the future.
The athletes who are becoming older and nearing the end of their careers will be the centre of attention. In the next seasons, certain veterans who have been participating in the IPL since the late 2000s are probably going to retire. The availability of several of the league's most important players remains uncertain, even if some of them may have played their final IPL match.
Cricketers to Retire From IPL After 2025:
5. Ravichandran Ashwin:

During the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, the Chennai Super Kings paid a substantial amount of Rs 9.75 Cr for veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. At the IPL 2025 mega auction, Ashwin was CSK's second-most expensive purchase, but he hasn't lived up to the hype. The 37-year-old has only taken five wickets in his seven IPL 2025 games for CSK. He has also occasionally been left out of the CSK starting lineup. Ashwin appears unlikely to play in another IPL season given his age and current status.
4. Moeen Ali:

One of the cricket players who has withdrawn from the top level to focus on playing in T20 leagues is Moeen Ali, who will shortly be 38. The IPL is the most competitive league, though, and given his age and the increasing demand for other roles, Moeen may have reached a point where he is unlikely to receive any bids. Even though Ali has been one of the most important foreign players in the IPL lately, there has been a rise in demand for some roles in recent seasons. The teams may be able to get uncapped spinners at a lower cost, so not all foreign spinners receive offers. Not to mention, Moeen has changed over the past few years as a batter.
3. Faf Du Plessis:

Before the 2025 IPL season, Faf du Plessis was named the team's vice-captain after being acquired by the Delhi Capitals for Rs 2 crore at the mega auction. But throughout the current season, Du Plessis, 40, has had trouble staying fit and playing well. Du Plessis has only participated in four IPL 2025 games thus far, and in those four innings, he has only struck one fifty. He has previously implied that his IPL career might come to an end with the Delhi Capitals. Thus, the current IPL 2025 season may be Du Plessis' final one.
2. Vijay Shankar:

In the IPL, Vijay Shankar has had numerous opportunities but has been unable to take full use of them. The right-handed hitter has been dreadfully out of form after his greatest IPL 2023 spell with the Gujarat Titans. Shankar might be released prior to the 2026 IPL after he was unable to bat with intent for CSK in the 2025 tournament. Shankar would struggle to even receive bids since he is unable to change with the times, and better players are coming up from the home circuits. Even though he could improve his cricket and make a comeback, it appears that he may need to put in a lot of work at this stage of his career to gain the owners' faith.
1. Mahendra Singh Dhoni:

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the five-time IPL champion skipper, is once again being considered for retirement. There have been a lot of inquiries about Dhoni's retirement because the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are having trouble in every area and are currently at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table. Although he has been having knee problems, 43-year-old Dhoni is still among the finest behind the wickets. During the IPL 2025 season, he made a few significant contributions for CSK, but his club needed more from him because the batting lineup hadn't produced a significant total. It is unrealistic to expect Dhoni to play in another IPL season, given his age and knee condition.
