Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis was named the Delhi Capitals' (DC) vice-captain for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) in a video that was shared on social media. Following Rishabh Pant's departure, Axar Patel, the new captain, will appoint the 40-year-old as his deputy to lead DC.
The Delhi Capitals (DC) have selected Faf du Plessis as their vice-captain for the forthcoming Indian Premier League season. This followed on Friday, March 14, when Axar Patel was announced as the team's captain. The Delhi Capitals used a fairly inventive social media post to reveal du Plessis' contribution. In order to announce his capability with his newest team, du Plessis pretended to be on the phone and referred to the Arun Jaitley Stadium as his "home."

Virat Kohli resigned as captain, and Du Plessis commanded RCB for three IPL seasons. DC hired him for his basic salary of Rs 2 crore. 42 games have seen him lead RCB. Under the leadership of the Proteas hitter, RCB won 21 and lost 21. Under him, RCB qualified for the playoffs for two of the three reasons. Additionally, he guided the Saint Lucia Kings to victory in the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Du Plessis' only emphasis since declaring his international retirement in 2021 has been competing in domestic franchise events. He recently played for the Johannesburg Super Kings in the just-finished SA20 tournament. The 40-year-old guided his team to the competition's elimination round. He pitched 10 innings and scored 286 runs.
On March 24 at Visakhapatnam, DC will play the Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the opening match of their IPL 2025 campaign. KL Rahul, the previous captain of the LSG, would not be seen in a leadership position. The franchise signed Rahul for Rs 14 crore.
