On October 31, the day of the IPL 2025 retention announcement, Glenn Maxwell was one of several cricket players released by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team. In the end, the team only kept three players, including the great batsman Virat Kohli, and they will be carrying a purse of Rs. 84 crore into the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Virat Kohli (INR 21 Cr), Rajat Patidar (INR 11 Cr), and Yash Dayal (INR 5 Crore) were the only three players that RCB kept before the massive auction, spending INR 37 crore. The well-known team has three Right To Match (RTM) cards and INR 83 crore left in their wallet. Maxwell recently disclosed how the franchise gave him an explanation for his termination. The 36-year-old expressed his admiration for their approach to the problem.

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell said on Around the Wicket that he was called by head coach Andy Flower and Mo Bobat to inform him of his dismissal from the RCB team. According to Maxwell, the two discussed their choice to let him go and called the whole process a "beautiful exit" from the franchise.

Glenn Maxwell reveals the truth:

Maxwell stated on ESPNCricinfo’s Around the Wicket show, “I got a phone call from Mo Bobat and Andy Flower. I sat there on a Zoom call, and they sort of explained to me the decision not to be retained. And, it was actually a really beautiful exit meeting, if that if that could be possible. We ended up talking about the game for about half an hour and talking about their strategy and what they were looking to get to do, going forward. So, I was really happy with that."

He further added, “They were obviously changing a few of their staff as well. So they needed to get that sorted before they started talking to players. And I understood that the process was going to take a bit of time. And, but yeah, you're always sort of getting a little bit edgy around that, that last date about whether you're gonna be retained and not so sure what's gonna happen."

Maxwell concluded saying, "But, completely understand what they the direction they're heading in. They went, with three unions to build that core. And, yeah, hopefully their overseas can complement, those locals. Yeah, I wouldn't say my RCB journey's over, but, yeah, I'd certainly love to get back there. It was a great franchise to play for and really enjoyed my time there."
