Teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) have not shied away from spending enormous sums of money to strengthen their teams and acquire impactful players. The overall amount spent at each auction is fascinating because it shows how much the well-known franchise league has expanded over time.
The IPL 2025 auction will only be held outside of India for the second time, on November 24 and 25, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Originally, 1574 players signed up for the IPL 2025 super auction; however, that number has since been reduced to 574 players, of whom 366 are Indian, 208 are foreign, and three are associate country players.
There will be 204 spots available, with 70 of those being for players from other countries. The 18th instalment of the IPL auction will take place in 2025. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held an auction before the 2008 IPL's first season, and eight teams worked hard to put together competitive squads. The inaugural IPL auction brought in a total of USD 36.43 million. In the meantime, the ten participating teams paid an incredible INR 230.45 crore at the auction last year.
IPL Auctions Spendings:
It's crucial to remember that Punjab Kings will bring the biggest remaining purse to the major auction. A whopping INR 110.50 crore will be available to them. At INR 41 crore, the inaugural champions, the Rajasthan Royals, would have the smallest remaining purse. During the two-day auction, fans are eagerly awaiting the way their favourite teams will assemble their squads.
Match fees, incremental performance compensation, and the auction purse are now included in the total salary ceiling. Match fees, which were recently included, were not included in the total salary cup for the 2024 season. For IPL 2025, the franchisees' auction proceeds have been set at an incredible INR 120 crore.
