After the league was temporarily suspended, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) thanked all the pertinent parties. PBKS expressed gratitude to Indian Railways, the BCCI, the IPL, and all other officials for making sure that everyone on the squad had a smooth journey.
On May 8, while playing the Delhi Capitals (DC), the team captained by Shreyas Iyer was in Dharamsala. After PBKS decided to bat first, they were 122 for 1 in 10.1 overs when the stadium's floodlights abruptly went out. Therefore, on May 9, the BCCI declared the league's one-week suspension and urged the fans to vacate the stadium.
The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium experienced a floodlight failure at the same time as the suspension, which prompted a rapid evacuation of spectators and the safe relocation of players and personnel. The team formally verified the safety of the players and support staff on its X account. In a statement released on Friday, Punjab Kings acknowledged cooperation between franchises, cricket organisations, and governmental organisations while confirming the safety of all players, support staff, and people.
IPL 2025 League Safety Update:
PBKS Instagram post read, "We're pleased to communicate that all our players, support staff and everyone associated with Punjab Kings cricket operations are safe and secure. A heartfelt thank you to the BCCI, IPL, Indian Railways, Police, State Authorities and our internal operations team for ensuring the safe movement of players, coaches, families and support staff from both Delhi Capitals & Punjab Kings, from Dharamsala to a secure location."
The post further added, "We are especially grateful to our wing commanders for their calm and swift leadership and to our CEO, Mr. Satish Menon, whose steady guidance has been instrumental throughout this process. It's been a standout season for the IPL and for Punjab Kings, both on and off the field. None of it would have been possible without our fans. Your support through very high and low has meant the world, and we're truly grateful."
Following an evaluation of the geopolitical environment, the BCCI is anticipated to release updated timetables. The IPL 2025 has currently been suspended for a week, but this could be extended based on the severity of the crisis and other exigencies.
