According to reports, the Indian Board of Control for Cricket is putting its plans for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season's restart into formality. The Indian Cricket Board formally announced Monday that the competition would be suspended for a week. Given the continuing armed hostilities between India and Pakistan, this decision was made.
The Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals game at Dharamsala was suddenly cancelled due to an exigency, and the suspension went into effect on May 9. Player safety, logistics, and the general geopolitical situation were all considered when the decision was made to end the game.
Before finalising the next judgment, the BCCI has been closely monitoring the happenings in the aftermath. Plans are already being discussed, though. The board is thinking of holding the remaining IPL games in locations like Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru that are thought to be reasonably safe and logistically possible, according to sources cited by The Times of India.
IPL 2025 Matches to Restart?
If the event can begin in a week, the BCCI is thinking of resuming it in the eastern and southern regions of the nation, according to a Times of India article. TOI quotes a BCCI source saying, “A week is a long time when it comes to such matters. The board is chalking out a contingency plan. But the initial feelers are that BCCI is considering the rest of the IPL matches in cities like Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru if the league resumes next week. If things de-escalate at the border, the board may also retain all the original venues."
With 12 league games and four playoff matches left in the tournament, there is a sense of urgency to finish it, not only for the broadcasters and sponsors but also because of the busy international schedule. India will begin a five-match Test series in England on June 20. In light of the increased military tension between the two neighbouring nations, the BCCI will also need to take into account the foreign players and their willingness to stay in India.
