Due to a finger injury, star cricketer Sanju Samson was unable to hold the wickets for the Rajasthan Royals for the first three games of the Indian Premier League 2025, which caused him to be much despised. The Kerala native only made appearances as an Impact Substitute, a specialised batter. Riyan Parag led the 2008 champions' captaincy journey while he was away.
He later assumed captaincy responsibilities after being permitted to return to wicketkeeping. However, during a match against the Delhi Capitals (DC), the RR captain suffered yet another injury. After being struck by a ball while batting, he later suffered an abdominal ailment that prevented him from playing in some games. Thus, Riyan Parag once again assumed leadership of the side.
Samson appears to have restarted his net sessions after missing a few more games. The IPL is still suspended, but teams have started preparing again because the season might start at any moment. On Monday morning, the team uploaded a photo of Samson, showing the 31-year-old biting his fingers while wearing his batting gear and practice equipment.

Samson was quite successful as a batter, and after he recovered, he assumed the captaincy responsibilities. However, he suffered another injury in the same area four games later, following the match against the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. As a result, Parag led the team for the following four games, and these numerous substitutions were the cause of RR's expulsion from the competition's playoff stages.
In the meantime, Samson has participated in seven of RR's twelve games in the current competition. He has amassed 224 runs at a 143.58 strike rate. In the RR's opening match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he amassed 66 runs, his only half-century. In addition, he scored 38 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and 41 against Gujarat Titans (GT).
May 12 and May 16 were the dates of RR's remaining games. The exact date of these matches is still up in the air, though, and will only become clear when the BCCI releases the updated tournament schedule. Samson will want to finish the tournament on a good note because he will be preparing for India's multi-format series against Bangladesh in August, but both games will be dead rubbers for RR.
