During the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 encounter against the Mumbai Indians, fans witnessed a completely different side of Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer. Iyer's PBKS became one of the season's main attractions even though they were the season's first runners-up. After making a mistake in the crucial match against the five-time champions, Iyer, who is frequently referred to as the new "captain cool" of the IPL due to his cool and collected demeanour, lost all of his composure with his partner, Shashank Singh.

All of the players shook hands as was customary after the game versus MI, and Iyer was observed insulting Shashank Singh as he greeted him. Now that Shashank has come forward, he has admitted that his careless behaviour during a crucial confrontation cost them the game. He claimed that despite the abuse, he and the PBKS skipper went out to supper later.

Shashank Singh gets candid:

Shashank's error nearly cost Punjab a spot in the final when PBKS was at 169/4 during the run chase of 204. Shashank raced for a single after playing a shot off Trent Boult's delivery in the seventeenth over. As Shashank foolishly made his way to the non-striker's end, it appeared to be an easy single. But MI captain Hardik Pandya grabbed the ball, displayed his incredible talent, and hit the PBKS batter directly to run him out. Everyone was taken aback by this ejection, especially Iyer, who did not anticipate Shashank making such a careless error at such a crucial game.

Indian Express reported Shashank as stating, “I deserve it, Iyer should have slapped me, my father didn’t speak to me till the finals. I was casual, I was walking on the beach, not even in the garden. It was a crucial time, Shreyas was clear that I didn’t expect this from you, but later he took me out for dinner."

He further added, “Whatever I have spoken to others and seen, there is no better captain than him in current times in world cricket. He gives us freedom, he treats everyone equally. No one will say, Shreyas has an attitude. The youngsters in the dressing room find him to be a chill bandaa (chill guy). Shreyas is the only captain who has told us that if anyone has any suggestions during the game, they can come and convey them to him. If he feels it’s the right advice, he will take it. It’s rare."
