After Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won their first IPL (Indian Premier League) title, there was a regrettable stampede at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Atul Wassan spoke out about the incident. The former Indian cricket player was shocked that the function was held in spite of the horrific tragedy, which has resulted in 11 fatalities and 33 injuries thus far.
RCB's IPL triumph celebrations were marred by the fatal stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium, which drew criticism for the team's choice to have the felicitation event inside while the outside was in disarray. Videos of the horrific event, which resulted in numerous injuries and fatalities, are still making the rounds on the internet. RCB, including Kohli, quickly expressed their sympathy after learning of the tragedy's scope.
Chinnaswamy Stadium Stampede Disaster:
Atul Wassan, a former pacer for India, contends that the players are not to blame. Noting that none of the nine previous IPL-winning teams had generated such a level of enthusiasm, he expressed surprise at the unheard-of excitement surrounding RCB's victory. Wassan thinks the craziness in Bengaluru was fueled by this craze rather than the players.
Talking with ANI he stated, "Yeah, so very sad, you know, it's tragic what I heard, and it just transpired in front of my eyes because since last night after the match, I've been doing shows, and I saw that relief on Virat's face and the kind of traction. I could see that, and he had made it clear in 2016 when he lost it that it was one of his worst moments. So I think the fans got into this. They bought into this story of Virat that it was such a big thing, and when Virat got it eventually with Anushka and all, that I think is when fans went crazy."
NDTV quotes the former cricketer saying, "I cannot believe in a million years that Virat Kohli knew that people were dying outside and the felicitation was going on inside. The politicians, I can believe, because they're ruthless, thick-skinned, and so is the corporate world, which is the RCB franchise. The franchisees don't care because they have to show the balance sheets, and they have to show revenue. They would have known, maybe. It was a lack of communication. By the time Virat and the players had gotten to know, they didn't have any say in it. If Virat had known, he would have immediately walked out. I cannot believe that Virat knew and this has happened."
