The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has stepped up its attempts to guarantee the availability of India's top pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, as the exciting ICC Champions Trophy 2025 approaches. A three-person team from the Centre of Excellence (CoE, formerly the National Cricket Academy) in Bengaluru has reportedly been assigned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to oversee vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah's recuperation in advance of the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Given his vital role in the bowling assault, the 31-year-old's injury concerns have been a significant setback for Team India. The speedster Jasprit Bumrah hasn't participated in a game since January when a stress response in his back caused him to take a break. The BCCI is seeking to expedite his return in time for the prestigious competition, but they are also exercising caution because of his history of back ailments.
Bumrah's Road to Recovery:
Bumrah only just finished his five-week unloading, which includes total relaxation, including gym activities, following a back injury sustained during the Sydney Test of the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year, according to PTI. At the CoE, he is currently undergoing rehabilitation, and a dedicated team has been put in place to keep an eye on his development.
News 18 quoted a BCCI official saying, “Strength and Conditioning (S&C) coach Rajnikanth Sivagnanam and physio Thulasi Ram Yuvraj are currently working on Bumrah’s rehabilitation with the Head of Sports Science, Dr Nitin Patel, personally monitoring the whole process. Obviously, the national team S&C coach Soham Desai and physio Kamlesh Jain are also kept in the loop."
One strength-and-conditioning coach, one physiotherapist, and a specialist coach to supervise skill-based recovery components are all part of the CoE's structured recovery program. When Bumrah returns to bowling, fast-bowling coach Troy Cooley is anticipated to take over, while Soham Desai remains with the Indian squad for the current home series against England.
