Moments after the tourists' defeat in Adelaide on Sunday, former India captain Virat Kohli entered the nets to begin preparing for the third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, which is scheduled to start in Brisbane next Saturday. Australia leveled the series at 1-1 when the Rohit Sharma-led team, who had triumphed in Perth less than two weeks ago, lost by 10 wickets in the second Test match.

Kohli had a terrible run of red-ball cricket form going into the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25. In the first innings of the first Test match in Perth, he was bowled cheaply. But he recovered admirably in the second, scoring his 30th century in the game's longest format. Following the morale-boosting knock, India would have hoped that he would continue to improve. That was not to be in Adelaide, though, as he was removed after two innings with scores of seven and eleven.

Sunil Gavaskar hails Virat Kohli:

With Australia now trailing 12-1 overall and having extended their winning streak to nine victories in Day/Night Tests in Adelaide, Virat Kohli was back at the nets shortly after the game ended, preparing for the third Test, which starts in less than a week.

India Today quotes Gavaskar saying, "By going out in the nets today, shows his dedication. But that is what I would like to see from everybody else. He's not scored runs. He is very proud of what he achieves and does for India, and because he's not scored runs in this game, he's out in the nets. He's working hard, he's sweating, and that is what you want to see. After that if you get out, no problem, because that's what sport is all about. You will get runs one day, will get wickets one day, next day you will not. But you've got to put in the effort. He is putting in the hard yards, he is putting in the effort, and that's why I won't be surprised if he's back amongst the runs in the next game"
