Calls for players to play domestic cricket have increased after Team India's Test collapse. The primary cause of the team's batting shortcomings at home was the Indian batters' difficulty against spin. In the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where India lost the series 1-3, the right-handed batter fell short of expectations.
Shubman Gill, the best batsman for India, is set to make his Ranji Trophy debut in the first round of troubleshooting. The right-handed batter has declared himself available for Punjab's match against Karnataka on January 23, when the competition resumes, according to Hindustan Times. Gill will be a member of Punjab's squad for their January 23–26 Ranji Trophy matchup against Karnataka. He was criticized for his patchy performance in Australia, which led to this decision.
Shubman Gill to boost Pubjab:
Notably, Punjab is now in second place in the tournament's Group C. They are currently slightly behind Karnataka, who have the same number of victories and games played, having won six of their seven games thus far. A Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) official told Hindustan Times that Shubman Gill is available for Punjab's Ranji match against Karnataka on January 23.
Shubman Gill found it difficult to score runs during the Test series against Australia. He returned for the rest of the matches after missing the first Test because of a finger injury. His results in the second and third Tests, however, were disappointing—31, 28, and 1 run.
He returned in the fourth Test at Sydney Cricket Ground after being left out of the starting lineup for the Boxing Day Test. Even so, his performances were lacklustre; in the last match, he scored 13 and 20 runs. A big step towards enhancing his form ahead of the Champions Trophy is Gill's choice to participate in the Ranji Trophy. He might be able to reclaim his spot in the Indian Test team thanks to his domestic cricket achievements.
