The Chennai Super Kings, one of the best teams in the Indian Premier League, took home the championship five times. CSK competed in 10 competition finals under the famous MS Dhoni's guidance, which is a record in and of itself. Because they dislike chopping and shifting, the CSK franchise has a reputation for supporting its athletes through good times and bad. Since they hardly ever deploy more than 18 players in a season, few players have played for the team as a result of this mentality.
Even though MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina are well-known to many fans, there are a number of players that have helped shape CSK's history but may not be as well-known. Here is a list of players who played for CSK that you may not be aware of.
CSK's Underrated Players:
3. George Bailey:
George Bailey, the current chief selector for Australia, joined the Chennai Super Kings in 2009. He only played three games before being purchased at auction for $50,000. It was anticipated that he would be discharged after scoring 45 runs at a strike rate of 115.38. But in 2010, CSK retained him in an attempt to give him another chance. Despite this, he only played one game and scored eighteen runs. Prior to the 2011 mega-auction, CSK made the decision to release him.
2. Michael Hussey:
From 2008 to 2015, Michael Hussey, widely known as "Mr. Cricket," played for CSK. He was a standout batsman for the team because of his consistency. Hussey was crucial in multiple game-winning innings and amassed over 3,000 runs for CSK. He was a vital asset during his tenure because of his cool head and tactical sense, which stabilized the batting order.
1. Andrew Flintoff:
The ideal term to characterize Andrew Flintoff is flamboyance. Alongside Kevin Pietersen, he was one of the England team's poster boys and is still regarded as one of the greatest all-around players of all time. He became one of the costliest players in the IPL after the Chennai Super Kings paid INR 9.8 crore to recruit him. At one point, he was also making more money than MS Dhoni.
Flintoff, on the other hand, didn't have a great season because he only played three games, picked up two wickets, and scored 62 runs at a strike rate of 116.98. The all-round player had to depart for England after suffering a knee injury during the competition. In the IPL, it also sparked a huge debate about Financial Fairplay. Flintoff never went back to play in the Indian Premier League.
