Former Indian cricket player Robin Uthappa has criticised the negative fan conduct, particularly during recent IPL matches against RCB and CSK. The former cricket player, who is now a broadcaster, recounted some of the unsightly and "intense" things he has seen outside stadiums, particularly outside Chennai's Chepauk Stadium and Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Uthappa called on supporters to respect one another and stop engaging in such "unsavoury" behaviour over a game, reminding them that cricket's primary purpose is to bring people together and provide entertainment.

The Rajat Patidar-led side won the contest in the final ball of their most recent play at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It was an intense match. However, several RCB supporters were observed making fun of CSK fans during the post-match scenes outside the stadium, which attracted extra attention for a variety of unjustified reasons. Uthappa reacted harshly as some footage surfaced showing women being heckled as well. The former IPL cricket player, who has played for both teams, voiced dissatisfaction with the conduct and labelled it disruptive.

Robin Uthappa breaks the silence:

Jarrod Kimber's YouTube channel features Uthappa saying, "It was pretty intense. Outside the stadium, they were mocking the team, the players of the team when the bus was leaving. That was one thing that I saw, which I thought was in bad taste. The other one that I saw was the fans fighting with each other. I saw women being heckled, which felt unsavoury, to be very honest. We saw that even in Chennai last year, again uncalled for. It's not on whatsoever."

The 39-year-old also recalled how the five-time winners' two-year suspension had been used as a joke by RCB supporters. Due to a spot-fixing incident, the CSK franchise was prohibited from participating in the IPL in 2016 and 2017. When some fans displayed jail-style shirts with veteran MS Dhoni's name written on them, they went too far in the rivalry. This is going beyond athletics, he said, and it should be taken into account.

Uthhapa further said, "It has gotten pretty intense. They are holding up jerseys, white T-shirts marked with black lines, stating the two years that CSK were banned for. They have kind of written MS's number on it, and Thala under it, depicting that they were in jail for two years, or whatever. It's getting a little beyond sport, which concerns me. Because at the end of the day, this is a sport."
